In this Growth Core partners from industry and research cooperate in order to realize in industrial scale a process for shaping of native fibrous polymers being already used for production of textile fibres for the development of innovative functional materials in the application fields of information and communication, medical technology, automotive industry, materials reinforcement and environmental technologies.
The aim of this innovative regional Growth Core ALCERU-HIGHTECH is the development of the region Rudolstadt to a national and international well-known research, production and commercial center for functional and construction materials on the base of cellulose. This realization is closely connected with the enhancements of the ALCERU-process as the core technology.
The ALCERU-process (ALCERU = ALternative CElluose RUdolstadt) was developed in Rudolstadt as a proprietary technology variant of the direct dissolution technology for manufacturing of regenerated cellulose fibres (Lyocell-process) being realized only at three industrial sites worldwide. As an alternative to the rayon process it is distinguishing by an environmental kindly process and closed technological cycle.
Basing on this technological platform we succeeded by addition of fine dispersed functional additives in manufacturing of shaped bodies possessing not only the well mechanical characteristics basing on the cellulose structure but also innovative functional properties.
Other features of the resulting materials are a dimensional stability and a diversity of cross sections being not achievable by conventional technologies. Such materials can be favourably used in electronic construction parts and material composites. With this key technology ALCERU-HighTech is influencing a lot of industrial branches like information and communication, engineering, automotive and aircraft constructions, medical and environmental technologies.
The objectives of this alliance shall be achieved through a basic project of application of the technological platform for development of new application fields for cellulosic functional materials and two subsequent projects for development of organic and inorganic functional materials.
EP 1 Piezo-ceramic fibres
EP 2 Flexible ferrimagnetic shaped bodies
EP 3 Products of the next generation
Further research partners from the fields of material applications and supporting institutions belong to this alliance as associative members but as a matter of principle this alliance is open for all users from the specified industrial branches.
